Abstract: Properly installed car seats can be effective in preventing death or serious injury for children in moving vehicles. Despite increased awareness, child safety seat use rates remain low and misuse rates are high. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of a child safety seat 'check-up' event on parental self-efficacy and knowledge. A case-crossover design was used to determine changes in knowledge and self-efficacy over time among participants. Results indicate that self-efficacy increased by 11% and knowledge increased by 14%. Conclusions are that check-up events can provide an means for increasing proper use of child safety seats. **********
